L3 Photography Update. T3 Wk2 2020.

The reason I am doing this is to showcase the darker side of evolution that is often forgotten about. Also to bring light to how we as a species have done many different things to tear apart the natural environment in our hunt to evolve and gain more power.

The artist models I am looking to base my photos off are:

Jerry Uelsmann- His images, tho in black and white, have a very surreal feeling to them. especially with the use of floating objects/people who would in any other situation not be there. Followed by the use of framing the subject with a pair of or singular Hand(s).

Danny Rowton- His night time photos more times than none have a light source in the background with low-level fog or another object sitting in front of it creating almost a halo-like glow. He also uses reflections in puddles to almost frame the subject that he is trying to photograph.

Amanda Freidman- Her night time photos seem to almost follow the same theory as Danny Rowton's, with the light in the background and something covering it in the foreground creating a halo-like glow, but her landscapes and photos of the sky are extremely clear.

Patrick Joust- The photographer as hero series works to use silhouettes and photos of photographers to depict them as the 'hero' of 'this world'. It gives people a look at a range of different photographers with a range of different styles. His RED series depicts his photos with red light(s) contained within or from an external unseen source illuminating the scene. Giving the scene an eerie feel.

Paul Thompson-  And finally His works are mostly landscapes with a subject that seems very far off. By keeping mostly natural light it makes it feel like a real place but still gives off an eerie tone. The tone comes from the lack of movement or life that can be seen within the photos in his Moonlight Series. His 18 Degrees series gives off the same vibes with the use of low lighting and cooler tones.

Progress:
This is my plan for boards 2 and 3 as it stands. I have just taken the photos for these boards and am just needing to decide which photos are going on said boards. Everything in pencil is basic sketches of what I want, and everything in red is explaining what I want to show, how I want it to be executed, what can be seen in each image, and the direction I wish to go with each board.

Here are the contact sheets of my last photoshoot, which worked alongside the plans above to capture the darker side of evolution. I now have to sort through these photos and decide which ones I would like to put on boards 2 and 3. Many of my most recent photos were taken to capture the beauty of evolution and the architecture that we used to have, for board 2. Though there are a few depicting some violent crimes humanity has committed against the natural environment.

Here are my contact sheets with marks below the photos that I wish to use on my boards. The photos I have chosen work alongside the plan with some minor alterations to some of the photos. I now have to plan out in photoshop how I want my boards to look with the photos I have taken. The photos I chose depict beauty and sorrow, as well as some violence with the fire in particular.

(Image to be added)
Here is the current plan for the first board that I have done so far. I wanted to depict how the land and nature was before us humans came along and ripped through it with our ever-advancing technology. The nighttime photos really resonate with me personally as I love the contrast of bright vivid colors that I get against the darker night sky.

3.2 Checklist:

3.3 Checklist:

WWW:
What is working?:  When I get out to take photos I am able to remain focused and get what I am looking for in a timely manner.

What is not working?:  My inability to get out and take the photos I need due to other commitments, like babysitting my brothers, and other family activities and gatherings.

What are my next steps?: Get my photos planned out in photoshop on the board layout, so I am then able to figure out which photos I need to get in my next photoshoot. Also to get better and used to working on photoshop without needing to ask for too much help.

Term 1 Week 5 Photoshoot

Reflection:

Moving forward I need to...
Work on the exposure in the images I take.
Take more photos that relate to each other.
Use the night light and flash to my advantage more often.

What I like about the images is...
The colors and the contrast between the dark night sky and the bright vibrant focal point.
The reoccurrence of the circular frame.
The night sky being paired with the flash.

Learning To ACT

Own Text:
If things start happening don't worry, don't stew, just go right along and you'll start happening too.

Group Text:
Rumour is a pipe, Blown by surmises, jealousies, conjectures, And of so easy and so plain a stop That the blunt monster with uncounted heads, The still-discordant wav'ring multitude, Can play upon it

Group Song:
Hakuna Matata

Level 3 - What is my Kaupapa

Hello,
My name is Hannah-Mae and I am a level 3 photography student in 2020. I was not in photography last year as it clashed with the other subjects that I was taking. But this year I am choosing to work through and study Environmental Protection. I am working on this because I have very strong ties with the land and I really enjoy working and being outside.

My two brainstorms have revealed that there are many environmental issues that do not get addressed as much as they should
Environmental Protection:
Pollution
Deforestation
Relationships to Animals
Farming effects
Cultural differences for protection
Colonization

Subject matter:
Landscapes
Animals
Trees
Contrast

After creating the mood board I learnt that I enjoy natural lighting in photos. I also enjoy photos that have contrast and abstract colour combinations.

The three artists that I have chosen are Ansel Adams (Traditional), Rinko Kawauchi (Contemporary), and Laurence Aberhart (Aotearoa).

Oaktree, sunset city
1963

Sequoia Roots

Rinko Kawauchi: (Media-http://rinkokawauchi.com/en/works/181/

Both from the Ametsuchi collection which was published in 2013

I have chosen these three artists because they share a similar component with the land and the natural elements of it.

Viewpoints

What is Viewpointing?

The Viewpoints, adapted for stage acting by Anne Bogart, are an improvisational system that trains an actor to use their body in time and space to create meaning. They are points of awareness that a performer or creator has while working. They provide a vocabulary for thinking about and acting upon movement and gesture. You & your fellow actors will make offers, accept offers, extend moments (such as repeating a gesture or a shape) and advance the scene. It is through this improvisation that you will create dramatic meaning.

Viewpoints of space cover things like
  • Spacial relationships
  • Architecture
  • Floor patterns
Viewpoints of time

  • kinesthetic responses
  • Repetition
  • Duration
Viewpoints of the body
  • Shape
  • Gesture

What is Grit?
Grit is having the ability to keep trying and keep going. Being resilient and determined. not giving up because something isn't going the way you wanted.

Shape:
Today we learnt that it is important to use the space reguarding how we interact with people and the arcetecture.

The Lifestyle Creed. Review Questions.

What does the word Creed mean?
A system of religious beliefs.

Where else do we see it used?
In video games and in the Catholic Nicene Creed

UNKNOWN WORDS
Oleocanthal- An ingredient found in Extra virgin olive oil

What is the catholic Nicene creed? And how is it similar to the poem
The catholic Nicene creed is a christian statement of faith.

THE CATHOLIC NICENE CREED:

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
Maker of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial
of one Being with the Father.

Through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.

He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE LIFESTYLE CREED:

The poem is similar to the statement but everything got to do with religion has been replaced with health information about Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Why does the author use cut up bits of text. What effect does it have?
To show that different snip its are taken from different texts. It makes you think about what sections are from the original statement, and what sections are from the back of a bottle of Extra virgin olive oil.

Why does the author use two different font styles. What do each of the font styles represent?
To further show which sections are from which text. It helps the reader with recognising each of the different texts while also setting them apart vastly regardless of the fact they are in the same poem.

Why do you think the author has juxtaposed the Nicene Creed with words such as “brain boosters”, “antioxidants”, and “good cholesterol”? What meaning is she trying to convey? Is this effective? What is the effect on the reader?
The words used are food/ health related. so it compares the power of god to healthy eating. comparing the beliefs of health an healthy eating of god to food.

What is the overall purpose of the poem?
To compare Healthy eating to a god. To compare the scientific outlook on life to the religious outlook.

What is the overall tone of the poem?
Contradictory. As half of the poem is scientific talk and the other half is religious talk.

Read the last two lines of the poem, What ideas do these line suggest?
It seems like someone is trying to compare healthy eating to religion to show that most people believe in their diet rather than what they are actually eating. It also seems like they are trying to convey that even if you believe in this diet you have taken up it is still important to eat properly as to avoid falling victim to believing that your diet rules your life.

Do you like this poem. Why/Why Not?
Not really as it was very hard to follow when it switched from old English to scientific words. Also by me not growing up in a religious house hold it makes it a lot harder for me personally to understand why a god is so important. But hey people can believe what they want.

Children Of Men Post Viewing Questions.

  1. What message does this film relay about immigration and xenophobia?
  2. What effect does Cuarón’s use of long takes have in the scenes where this filming technique is used?
  3. How plausible is the future world depicted in Children of Men?
  4. How has the lack of children changed society?
  5. What role does religion play in the film?
  6. Luke is consistently portrayed as the "bad guy" throughout the film. Is he sincerely a bad person? Why or why not?
  7. How was a totalitarian government able to emerge in the wake of the infertility crisis in Britain?
  8. How does Kee develop over the course of the film?
  9. How does Theo develop over the course of the film?

Question One:
In regards to illegal Immigration, because of what happened with society people are more likely to have xenophobia because they aren’t able to interact with from other countries.

Question Two:
By having longer takes it gives off the sense of how long has passed. It also helps set the pace of the movie and helps us understand what it would be like to follow Theo around throughout the movie.

Question Three:
It could happen but not as soon as they have said. As we have passed the moment in time where this happened and as we have not reached the level of chaos.

Question Four:
The lack of children has changed society heavily it has gone from a place of love and happiness to a place where they are not worried about the children or themselves living.

Question Five:
Religion plays a high role in this film because the movie is based off London hating immigrants and sending refugees to Bexhill which is a camp for refugees that is disgusting, full of rubbish and the population is so high at the camp.

Question Six:
Luke is not a bad guy he just didn’t have the same views as some of the others. He believed what he was doing was for the best. But once he saw the baby he realised what he thought was right actually isn’t. He changed his mind which people do.

Question Seven:
In the wake of the infertility crisis in Britain, the totalitarian government was able to emerge because they “needed” someone who “Knew” how to solve the issue but only ended up causing bigger problems for the country. They also started supplying people with Kill switch kits (Suicide kits) and clean and fresh resources making them more popular with the British people.

Question Eight:
Throughout the film, Kee developed a lot she went from a person who didn't care about anyone. To someone who cares about everyone and loves her baby, she didn't want to hand the baby over to the government because she was worried to lose her

Question Nine:

Theo develops over the course of the movie and goes from an alcoholic who couldn't care less, to someone who would protect the life of 2 people he loves and cares about even if it meant risking and losing his own.
