L3 Photography Update. T3 Wk2 2020.

The reason I am doing this is to showcase the darker side of evolution that is often forgotten about. Also to bring light to how we as a species have done many different things to tear apart the natural environment in our hunt to evolve and gain more power. 

The artist models I am looking to base my photos off are:

Jerry Uelsmann- His images, tho in black and white, have a very surreal feeling to them. especially with the use of floating objects/people who would in any other situation not be there. Followed by the use of framing the subject with a pair of or singular Hand(s).

Danny Rowton- His night time photos more times than none have a light source in the background with low-level fog or another object sitting in front of it creating almost a halo-like glow. He also uses reflections in puddles to almost frame the subject that he is trying to photograph.

Amanda Freidman- Her night time photos seem to almost follow the same theory as Danny Rowton's, with the light in the background and something covering it in the foreground creating a halo-like glow, but her landscapes and photos of the sky are extremely clear.

Patrick Joust- The photographer as hero series works to use silhouettes and photos of photographers to depict them as the 'hero' of 'this world'. It gives people a look at a range of different photographers with a range of different styles. His RED series depicts his photos with red light(s) contained within or from an external unseen source illuminating the scene. Giving the scene an eerie feel.

Paul Thompson-  And finally His works are mostly landscapes with a subject that seems very far off. By keeping mostly natural light it makes it feel like a real place but still gives off an eerie tone. The tone comes from the lack of movement or life that can be seen within the photos in his Moonlight Series. His 18 Degrees series gives off the same vibes with the use of low lighting and cooler tones.


Progress:
This is my plan for boards 2 and 3 as it stands. I have just taken the photos for these boards and am just needing to decide which photos are going on said boards. Everything in pencil is basic sketches of what I want, and everything in red is explaining what I want to show, how I want it to be executed, what can be seen in each image, and the direction I wish to go with each board. 

Here are the contact sheets of my last photoshoot, which worked alongside the plans above to capture the darker side of evolution. I now have to sort through these photos and decide which ones I would like to put on boards 2 and 3. Many of my most recent photos were taken to capture the beauty of evolution and the architecture that we used to have, for board 2. Though there are a few depicting some violent crimes humanity has committed against the natural environment.

Here are my contact sheets with marks below the photos that I wish to use on my boards. The photos I have chosen work alongside the plan with some minor alterations to some of the photos. I now have to plan out in photoshop how I want my boards to look with the photos I have taken. The photos I chose depict beauty and sorrow, as well as some violence with the fire in particular.

Here is the current plan for the first board that I have done so far. I wanted to depict how the land and nature was before us humans came along and ripped through it with our ever-advancing technology. The nighttime photos really resonate with me personally as I love the contrast of bright vivid colors that I get against the darker night sky.

What is working?:  When I get out to take photos I am able to remain focused and get what I am looking for in a timely manner.

What is not working?:  My inability to get out and take the photos I need due to other commitments, like babysitting my brothers, and other family activities and gatherings.

What are my next steps?: Get my photos planned out in photoshop on the board layout, so I am then able to figure out which photos I need to get in my next photoshoot. Also to get better and used to working on photoshop without needing to ask for too much help.

Term 1 Week 5 Photoshoot

Reflection:

Moving forward I need to... 
Work on the exposure in the images I take.
Take more photos that relate to each other.
Use the night light and flash to my advantage more often.

What I like about the images is...
The colors and the contrast between the dark night sky and the bright vibrant focal point.
The reoccurrence of the circular frame.
The night sky being paired with the flash.

Level 3 - What is my Kaupapa

Hello, 
My name is Hannah-Mae and I am a level 3 photography student in 2020. I was not in photography last year as it clashed with the other subjects that I was taking. But this year I am choosing to work through and study Environmental Protection. I am working on this because I have very strong ties with the land and I really enjoy working and being outside.

My two brainstorms have revealed that there are many environmental issues that do not get addressed as much as they should

After creating the mood board I learnt that I enjoy natural lighting in photos. I also enjoy photos that have contrast and abstract colour combinations.

The three artists that I have chosen are Ansel Adams (Traditional), Rinko Kawauchi (Contemporary), and Laurence Aberhart (Aotearoa).

Viewpoints

What is Viewpointing?


The Viewpoints, adapted for stage acting by Anne Bogart, are an improvisational system that trains an actor to use their body in time and space to create meaning. They are points of awareness that a performer or creator has while working. They provide a vocabulary for thinking about and acting upon movement and gesture. You & your fellow actors will make offers, accept offers, extend moments (such as repeating a gesture or a shape) and advance the scene. It is through this improvisation that you will create dramatic meaning.

What is Grit?
Grit is having the ability to keep trying and keep going. Being resilient and determined. not giving up because something isn't going the way you wanted.
